Why choose a board certified pediatric dentist?

Board-Certified Pediatric Dentists undergo specialized training that goes well beyond dental school. Our training allows us to understand the complexities of a child’s ever-changing skeletal, dental, medical, and psychological development. Keeping all of our training in mind, we’re able to customize treatment based on your child’s individual needs. Being Board-Certified, grants us access to Advanced Behavior Management techniques such as Oral Conscious Sedation, IV Sedation, and hospital privileges for children with Special Health Care Needs.

When should I bring my child in for their first visit?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), it is recommended to bring your child to their first dental visit by their 1st birthday or after the 1st tooth emerges, whichever comes first.

Early dental visits are crucial in establishing comfort with your child and their new dental home. This sets the foundation for a lifetime of dental care.

An easy way to remember is, “Everyone by 1."

What ages does &Smiles treat?

We treat children and adolescents from 0-18 years old.

What should I do if my child has a dental emergency?

Don't panic! Immediately call our office at 214-833-8964. Our triage service will then connect you directly to either Dr. Ngo or Dr. Garces. They’ll assess the condition and determine the appropriate intervention.

How can I prepare my child for their first dental appointment?

We recognize that going to the dentist for the first time can be nerve-racking for both child and parent. Our goal is to create a positive first experience for your family.

Here are a few ways to prepare:

  • Read a book about going to the dentist (our personal favorite is "Just Going to the Dentist" by Mercer Mayor).
  • Familiarize your child with our doctors and the space. Go to our website and watch a video leading up to your appointment.
  • Bring their favorite toy, stuffed animal, or blanket to their appointment so they have a comfort from home in a new environment.
  • If your child is under 3 years old, we’ll perform a lap exam (as seen below). In the days and weeks leading up to the appointment, practice having your child lay back in your lap when brushing their teeth. Practice opening and closing their mouths.

Does &Smile accept my insurance?

We accommodate most PPO dental insurance plans. Our dedicated team will submit dental claims on your behalf after every appointment for all PPO dental insurance plans.

For the insurance plans we don't have a direct contract with, we still accept your insurance and utilize your benefits so that you can choose which office you'd like your child to attend. Most insurance plans cover most or even 100% of the costs. We do require upfront payments since your insurance will subsequently reimburse you directly based on the coverage specified in your individual plan.

What if I don’t have insurance?

No insurance? No problem! We are excited to announce, Membership&Smiles, an in-house membership plan that will provide an attainable and valuable option for our families without dental insurance.

Membership&Smiles includes the AAPD-recommended bi-annual dental cleanings and exams, X-rays, Fluoride treatments, and one Emergency exam. Members benefit from discounts on all other dental treatments and 24/7 support from our team.
